I'm still at odds with the way in which I will begin to implement blogs in my classroom. After looking at other individual and educational blogs, I can see the value in blogging. I'm just trying to figure out how to realistically implement and maintain a blog in my fourth grade classroom.
After spending some quality time with Will Richardson's Blogs, Wikis, and Podcasts, I've decided that I will give blogging some long over due attention. Although I consider myself pretty current with new technologies, Web 2.0 tools are extremely new to me. One of the most important things I got from Richardson's discussion on weblogs was a quote that continues to resonate with me.
"How can a teacher expect her students to blog (or use any other tool, strategy, or technique) if she doesn't use it herself, exploring the impact it has on her thinking, writing, research, and creativity?"
With that being said, I plan to continue to explore blogs and ways to implement them in my classroom. Hopefully, I will find my own niche in blogging.
Welcome to blogging Jill! I remembered reading that quote from Richardson's book and thinking that made sense. How could I expect my students to blog if I had never done it myself? Well we are lucky that we will have the experience. I am thinking a couple different ideas for blogging in my fourth grade classroom. Due to the heavy Social Studies content, I thought that posting a statement each week about the unit we are on or past units would be a good way to get students opinions on our historical events. Also it would be a great review. Another way I could use blogging in the classroom is by posting a inferencing question each week for my different reading groups. They could make their comments during reading rotations. Those are my thoughts.
ReplyDeleteI,too have officially crossed over to Blogging! I plan to implement this tool into my classroom;however I still in 'Blogging 101-myself! :) Good luck with finding content, I think Schneble's idea with the historical events as a review is great! I'm still trying to gather content for myself! I'm a computer applications/technology teacher and thinking of some good ideas to blog about it...any suggestions??
